The Golden Needles Quilt Guild continued to grow with Judy Ronnander becoming the 100th member in February 1988. Activities marking this year of growth included the first quilt show at the Heritage Museum and the group’s first major fundraiser, a silent auction. This annual event, in subsequent years, has been combinations of silent auctions, verbal auctions, quilt shows, and/or craft sales. All of the items at these events are made and donated by guild members. Beginning in 1989, the guild members have made a quilt to raffle at each year's auction or show. Money collected at the auctions is used throughout the year to pay our guest speakers and to donate to local charities.
In 1989, a contest was held to design a Guild pin. The distinctive design selected was created by Celine Doster. The pin was made available for sale in December.
February of 1990 marked another milestone for the Guild with the introduction of the annual “Sweetheart of the Guild” award.
A scholarship fund in memory of Sammye Christian was established in 2003 to benefit students who are pursuing degrees in education. The first awards were given in September of that year.
Golden Needles are still busy in Montgomery County. The lovely tradition of quilting lives on through the nimble fingers of the Golden Needles Quilt Guild.
